Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
