The event happened when a collection of confiscated explosives accidentally blew up during management operations.

The explosion happened on Friday evening at the Nowgam security post, where detonation agents seized from Faridabad in the northern territory of Haryana state were being held provisionally.
Local law enforcement head stated that the explosives were awaiting forensic examination when a "extremely tragic" mishap during management caused their detonation at approximately 23:20 local time.

Law enforcement officials asserted that this was an "accidental detonation" and rather than a terror incident. "Alternative theories regarding the cause of this occurrence is unneeded," emphasized the police chief during a press briefing.
The police station endured extensive destruction from the explosion, with neighboring structures also being affected by the powerful blast.

Numerous cars were "consumed by fire and transformed into ashen remains, with wreckage spread across the site," according to official reports.
"The power of the explosion was such that some body parts were retrieved from nearby houses, approximately 100-200 meters distant the police station," mentioned an official source.
The majority of the casualties were police officers, along with forensic personnel, two evidence documentation specialists, and a garment worker who was with the team.
