Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
