The loved ones of teens missing after a tragic inferno at a establishment in a Switzerland's ski resort are enduring an painful period of uncertainty for official news and appealing for information about their family members via social media.
The fire devastated the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Circulated images reveal the roof structure catching alight as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have warned that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the fatalities of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of four dozen individuals and hurt another over a hundred. Authorities noted on Friday that 113 of the those hurt have been identified, with the process still underway to identify the final individuals.
In the waiting period, relatives have been using the internet to plead for clues about their missing relatives who were in attendance that fateful night.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are currently unknown, according to an appeal from his family.
The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, told a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the equivalent search in the capital, but could not find him.
"I'm living a nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. Words cannot describe it," she told the paper.
She added that some of his friends had been discovered with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through an absolute nightmare."
The Italy's government has said that six of its citizens have not been located.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, who hailed from Genoa but now residing in Dubai.
The national sporting body has released a tribute that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the fire, paying tribute to a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An official spokesperson has indicated that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His parent said that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"Someone with him informed me they ran away after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she said, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers stated, "I remember his kindness and positive demeanor, coupled with great responsibility. Often offer to help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek nationality but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on that night, according to media.
