Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the initial candidates under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.
Pereira was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's 10-match winless start to the Premier League season.
And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous links to the club - are part of the names to be considered by the club leadership.
Edwards is currently at another club, which would create a possible hurdle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.
Nevertheless the ex- Luton manager - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the position.
The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves board as they start the process of appointing a fresh head coach.
O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock appointment considering he was released by the club in the previous winter.
The ex- West Ham United player is out of work meaning Wolves would not be required to provide any buyout fee.
