The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
