The tennis star celebrating a point
The Belarusian player finished the tour with an impressive twenty-three to three Grand Slam match record.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive year.

The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.

A Year of High Performance

Throughout the year, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.

The Belarusian also claimed victory at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.

In July, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.

Record-Breaking Achievements

Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a 63-12 win-loss record, and collected a historic eleven million pounds in prize money.

She received nearly 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.

Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a higher level".
