US Online Influencer Penalized After Mass Electric Bike Gathering on Iconic Australian Bridge

New South Wales police have levied a penalty against an US-based online influencer and handed out two traffic infringement notices for reported reckless operation following a swarm of e-bike riders gathered on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during peak-hour traffic on a weekday.

The Incident: An Illegal Gathering

A gathering of around 40 individuals riding electric bikes and motorbikes proceeded along the bridge’s main deck, an area where bicycle riding is banned. The assembly then turned around and rode through the downtown area and a nearby district.

"This had potential for people to be injured and killed," remarked NSW police assistant commissioner David Driver on Wednesday.

Police indicated they did not chase right away the group out of safety concerns but rather found the assembly at a scenic Sydney lookout near the city gardens, where they dispersed.

Fines Imposed for Content Creator

Later in the week, authorities stated they had issued the American online personality who goes by Sur Ronster, twenty-six, with two violation tickets for negligent driving (not involving death or prior injury), carrying a fine of $562 and penalty points per notice, connected to the bridge incident. Officials noted that inquiries were continuing.

The personality reportedly has over 3.4m followers on one platform and over 1.2m on Instagram.

Creator's Response

The content creator gave comments to a local publication recently after the incident spread rapidly on digital platforms, stating he was sorry for giving "bike life" a negative image.

"I accept the blame. That was among the safest gatherings I have witnessed," he said. "I’m coming here as a guest, so I’m going to abide by the rules and standards of the city. So when I decided to do a public meeting it did not involve a ride-out, it was just to greet people near the bridge."

"I did not know the area well, it was my fault we found ourselves on the bridge and I had two choices: either the group completes the entirety of the bridge and comes back, an illegal act. Or we reverse, essentially, before we’re on the bridge. I chose at the time to go back."

Broader Context on Electric Bike Rules

The increase of electric bicycles on streets across the country has sparked increasing demands for regulation. A senior government official, Mark Butler, commented that illegal ebikes were a "complete hazard on the road."

"Young people have engaged in reckless acts on bikes since the invention of the early bicycle [but] the harm that are coming into our ERs are truly severe," he stated. "We must make sure we prevent these things coming into the country [and] officers are given the powers to take strong action, to confiscate them, to crush them, to dispose of them."

The state recorded 226 injuries related to electric bikes in 2024. However, in the initial half of 2025, that figure surged to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four deaths.
